Homemade pumpkin pie

Mmmm.

I made my first homemade pumpkin pie last night. It was also my breakfast. I am a pumpkin pie nut and I can't believe that it has taken me 9 and 1/2 years of marriage to finally get the courage to make one.

Was it the fanciest? Nope. Was it gourmet? Nope. But it was yummy with a pile of whipped cream on top. Even my kids ate it - admittedly more for the whipped cream than the pie. And if you ignored the slightly overly-toasted top of the crust, it was picture perfect! Libby's pumpkin pie filling made it a breeze. Someday I'll be brave enough to slaughter my own pumpkin, but for now, it made the project doable.

The things we do ourselves give us more satisfaction than the things best done by others I think.

I think this may make it onto my short 'tradition' list for the Fall. Forget that almost no one else in my family likes pumpkin pie. Sometimes you just have to do something that is going to make you smile.
